An Oak is a tree or shrub in the family of oak plants (Fagaceae). The species is native to the northern hemisphere – and there the most prevalent tree.
In spring, the bark of the young branches is peeled off and the contents – tannins, bitterns, pectins, resin and gallic acid – are put to medicinal use. These contents have adstringent, anti-inflammatory and lightly antiseptic properties. It has been shown that oak bark can reduce fever, especially remittant fever. Gargling with a sud of the bark will soothen sore throat and inflammation of the gums. Very popular is treatment of dandruff with a sud. If the bark is soaked in wine, it may act as a remedy against light diarrhea and chronic inflammation of the digestive system. External uses are treatment of wet eczema and hot inflammations (rub).
Take 1-2 capsules three times daily, with plenty of water.
